Simulation IT Systems Analyst

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a technically minded Information Technology professional to join the Naval Training & Simulation IT organization. Naval Training & Simulation designs, builds, and deploys state-of-the-art Simulation trainers utilized by the US Navy to train Navy Sailors on nuclear powered ship operation around the world. The Simulation computing network is highly immersive, sometimes entirely virtual, that incorporates a multitude of traditional and emerging Information Technology platforms, systems, and applications hosted in a uniquely customized environment. As a Simulation IT Systems Analyst you'll have the opportunity to learn, configure, secure, troubleshoot, and optimize core IT Systems, Servers, Networks, and Services as well as their interactions with first-of-kind software and hardware Simulation Platforms. NNL has an immediate need for one highly motivated individual interested in meeting this challenge. 

Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Microsoft server/client configuration, implementation, hardening, and life cycle management
  • Administration of Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and Management of Group Policy
  • Management of VMware-centric virtual infrastructure, hosts, applications, and associated systems and services
  • Identify, design, implement, optimize, and harden IT solutions to meet the diverse needs of first-of-kind Simulation trainers
  • Perform monitoring of clients, servers, applications, and network infrastructure to include proactive alerting and response to anomalous conditions
  • Seek out ways to improve IT Operations through automation and creative problem solving
  • Support the Assessment & Authorization (A&A) of new and existing information systems and applications
  • Support a global Vulnerability Management patching and scanning program
  • Design, configure, deploy, and manage IT systems that support new and existing Naval Simulation trainers

REQUIRED SKILLS *

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and issues to both technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Strong desire to discover and solve the root cause of complex problems and communicate them effectively
  • Demonstrated technical or academic leadership experience
  • Good work ethic and desire to learn
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with geographically separate team

Intermediate:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years relevant experience; or
  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year relevant experience 

Advanced:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years relevant experience; or
  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years relevant experience

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience configuring, optimizing, administering, and securing Microsoft-centric Active Directory computing environments and Group Policy
  • System hardening experience utilizing Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) or similar specifications
  • Basic knowledge of programming/scripting technologies (i.e. PowerShell, VBA, Python, Bash)
  • Database management knowledge (i.e. SQL Administration)
  • Background working with Host Based Security System (HBSS) suite of tools (i.e. McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, Antivirus, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of network technologies (i.e. Routing, Switching, IP Addressing)
  • Experience in Vulnerability Management and system scanning and patching (i.e. Nessus VM scanners, IBM BigFix modules)
  • Enterprise Network/System monitoring and incident response experience
  • Have worked in a multi-location team on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of basic Project Management concepts
  • VMware (Horizon, vSAN, vSphere) virtual infrastructure familiarity or working knowledge
  • Previous Tier 1/2 and experience providing IT services to business unit customers
