Director of Professional Practice and Education

Job Summary
 The Director of Professional Practice and Education assists the Chief Nursing Officer in the administration and leadership of achieving the goals of the department, organization, and clinical service area. The director assumes responsibility for the oversight and outcomes of assigned area, using evidence-based leadership principles. This position requires knowledge of adult learning principles and Magnet Recognition standards.
The position manages, develops, and oversees daily operations including achieving operating and capital budgets, coding for maximum reimbursement, appropriate billing practices and service delivery to stakeholders. Position oversees all human resource functions to include hiring, training, performance reviews and recognition and reward. Develops and champions department performance and behavioral standards and works to continually improve quality of services. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and holds leaders and staff accountable for meeting goals. Utilizes and applies quality process improvement principles in achieving administrative responsibilities.
 Essential Job Functions Provides a professional work environment through organizational analysis, strategic planning and sound management principles while practicing sound fiscal management of responsibility.
Develops and operationalizes an Annual Organizational Education Plan, coordinating educational resources while creating synergy with other Altu Health System resources.
Leads and supports the American Nurse Credentialing Center Magnet Designation initiative to achieve Magnet designation.
Coordinates with key personnel to collect, monitor, and distribute data and information in order to evaluate key initiatives that support the vision of the Department of Nursing.
Provides consultation and guidance to nursing units and divisions on achieving quality, productivity, and patient engagement goals.
Ensures quality performance improvement and organizational compliance with legal and regulatory requirements by monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of nursing care and patient outcomes.
Collaborates with key hospital, community leadership, and management staff to facilitate, coordinate, and educate performance initiatives and designations.
Serves as a change agent and champion to drive organizational transformation in alignment with strategy and vision.
Identifies opportunities for improvement based on evidence-based practices, regulatory and accrediting agency requirements and monitoring for high risk, low volume, and/or problem prone processes.
 
License, Certification & Registration
ND Registered Nurse - Required
MN Registered Nurse- Required Within 6 Months
 
Education & Experience
Master's in Nursing - Required
Doctorate in Nursing - Preferred
5 Years of Related Experience - Required 
 
Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrates the ability to motivate people, and identify and apply resources effectively.
 Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written format.
 Demonstrates strong change management skills and ideally has successfully led large scale change.
