Research Scientist

Bioprocess Research Scientist
Starting:            Immediately 
Location:          Rapid City, SD
Travel:               Regular travel expected to meet with clients
 
Our company works with many biotech client, large and small, to develop and deliver new bioprocess technologies. Projects range from pharmaceutical to novel foods to renewable biochemicals and fuels.
 
We are looking for an experience fermentation and bioprocessing researcher that enjoys learning new processes and is passionate about translating innovations into commercial enterprises.
 
Expected duties
  • Plan, execute, and interpret experiments in microbiology and downstream separation processes (DSP)
  • Work closely with clients (internal and external) – a friendly, collaborative attitude is essential
  • Oversee a bioprocessing laboratory, including supplies procurement
  • Mastery of aseptic techniques
  • Operate lab and pilot scale fermenters (bioreactors) and shake flask trials
  • Operate and maintain analytical equipment, including HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, Microscopes, etc. 
  • Guide and assist research assistants and interns

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Applied Biology, Food Science, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Preference and higher compensation will be available for more experienced candidates
  • Able to lift 50 LBS and work in a factory environment
  • Able to travel to client sites, both domestic and international
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in microbiology, biochemical engineering, or business management
  • Several years of experience in applied industrial microbiology
  • Scale-up and scale-down experiments for bioprocess modeling

  • Self-starter, highly organized, and able to work well with others
  • Excellent, persuasive communicator in both speaking and writing
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills: be a "friendly skeptic"
