IT Internship (Summer 2021)

Overview
Our Information Technology department is looking for skilled college students interested in pursuing an technology internship in the mortgage industry. We have a number of positions available in a variety of areas. Please see the outline below to determine which area you might be the most interested in. Our internship will consist of meaningful work that is pivotal for the growth and development of our business. Additionally, we'll have intern networking events, executive speakers, social outings and final report outs. 
 
Right now, we're planning on a 10 week internship beginning in early June and wrapping up in mid-August. As for COVID, we're in "wait-and-see" mode and can't be sure whether the internship will be remote or in the office. 

CLOUD BUSINESS
You will compile, develop, and deliver architectural guardrails; influence stakeholders and ensure compliance with architectural guardrails within many technology domains that support the needs of product teams to reliably launch products and services. Additionally you will help drive the evolution of infrastructure, processes, products, and services by influencing various decision-makers
 
APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
The Application Developer will be responsible for the overall coding and design of technology solutions that address the business needs of PennyMac. Projects may include App development, and QA automation across loan servicing. This may include use of Message queue/Bus, Rules Engine(Drools), and Process Automation Manager(PAM) as well as some DB development. There may be some development using Clojure as well. Academic experience or interest in one or more of the following: JS/Node, Python, Node, React, Ruby/Rails, SQL, AWS, Data Science, Machine Learning or Web Services. 
 
DATA ANALYTICS
The IT Data Analyst and Data Engineers will be part of the group that will transform data into information to allow stakeholders to make strategic business decisions. The various disciplines are outlined below:
  • The IT Data Analyst will be responsible for using statistical tools to interpret data sets, to interpret trends and patterns that could be valuable for diagnostic and predictive analytics efforts. Academic experience or interest in one or more of the following: Python, JavaScript (D3.js), Java, API Interactions, SQL, Tableau, statistics, Machine Learning, R.
  • The Data Engineer will be responsible for developing the logical and physical database designs for new analytics models, as well as optimizing data flow. The Data Engineer will support data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout analytics ongoing projects. Academic experience or interest in one or more of the following: Python, JavaScript (D3.js), Java, API Interactions, SQL, AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift, Athena
  • The Data Analyst will develop basic fundamentals of data aggregation and data flow processes. Fundamentals will be developed through daily support tasks. Academic experience or interest in Mathematics, computer science, data modeling, data relations and data mappings.
 
INFORMATION SECURITY
The Information Security intern will analyze and correlate security events and alerts, perform initial forensic investigation steps, and communicate findings and observations. Academic experience or interest in one or more of the following: Networking, Software Development (any language), and Cyber Security

STRATEGIC PLANNING
The Strategic Planning Intern will partner with the team responsible for IT Vendor Management, IT Budget, and invoice validation as well as IT Strategic planning. We’re looking for students that have an interest in data, finance, and business. Tableau experience and experience with data sets in google sheets would be a big plus. The candidate could work from our Plano, TX or Agoura, CA as a second choice

OPERATIONS CENTER
The Site Reliability Engineer creates a bridge between IT Development and IT Operations by applying a software engineering mindset to system administration. They split their time between operations duties and developing systems and software that help increase site reliability and performance. We’re looking for students who have an interest in one or more of the following: AWS cloud services, Linux administration, windows administration, IT infrastructure health monitoring and alerting, virtual server and virtual desktop administration, active directory, networking, software development, automation using Python and other languages

Qualifications:
  • Graduating between August 2021 and December 2023
  • Majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, IT, Information Systems, Data Science or related field
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment  
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player
  • Passion, self-motivation, positive attitude and competitive spirit
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
