Stewardship Internship Summer 2021 at the National Museum of African American History and Culture

Internships at the National Museum of African American History and Culture offer undergraduate and graduate students, and recent graduates opportunities to work closely with professionals and scholars in the museum field. The museum provides a dynamic learning environment and access to supportive mentors that help interns reach their educational and professional goals. Interns can gain practical museum skills and program development experience in a variety of part-time and full-time positions!

The Stewardship Intern will work with the Donor Relations and Stewardship Team on prospect management and engagement activities. The outcome will be to increase revenue to the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) which has the most active members of any Smithsonian museum. The intern will gain insight into the inner workings of the Office of Advancement at the NMAAHC. They will develop verbal, written, and professional skills and understand the advancement and development strategies for large non-profits.

Duties Include (but are not limited to):
  • Learn Advance database software to maintain accurate data about our members to make sure they receive the information they are entitled to as supporters (no Advance software experience necessary)
  • Use Excel to crunch the data to ensure contributions are logged correctly, the correct members are invited to current events, and we are serving the members in the most efficient way possible (some Excel experience preferred)
  • Contribute to monthly e-newsletter by identifying appropriate museum collection object for features and similar creative ideas to promote the resources of the museum
  • Create or update webpages with training in Druple CMS (no Durple experience required)
  • Create a mass email from start to finish, including composition and HTML coding.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture will offer available internships as online experiences to meet current health and safety guidelines set forth by the Smithsonian Institution.
                                                            
QUALIFICATIONS:
Students who are currently enrolled in an academic program, as well as individuals who have recently completed studies. All majors are welcome.

A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or its equivalent is generally expected (with withdrawals and incompletes explained).

Ability to work a minimum of twenty hours per week.

Interns should possess enthusiasm, strong writing and organizational skills and proficient computer skills.
