Temporary Conservation Technician II #60009182

This advertisement is for a temporary position that is expected to last until October 31, 2021.

Examples of Work
Conduct boater surveys, boat inspections on assigned waterbodies and if necessary complete boat decontaminations as part of the statewide Aquatic Invasive Species Program. Educate the public to prevent both the spread and introduction of AIS. Assist Fisheries Division staff with AIS detection surveys, AIS sample collections and conduct control treatments, if necessary. Assist Fisheries Division staff with field collections of fish community data (including use of boat electrofishing, trap nets, gill nets and seines), aquatic habitat assessments, and angler use data from reservoirs and lakes in southeast Nebraska pertinent to on-going research and fisheries management, as needed. Assist in the stocking of hatchery fish in district waterbodies. Assist with fish age determinations from scale and spines collected in the field, and subsequent computer data entry. Assist with equipment maintenance, outdoor education programs, and other related responsibilities as assigned. 

Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: 15 semester hours or the equivalent of post high school coursework/training in fisheries management, wildlife management, natural resources and/or biology and 12 months experience in wildlife, recreation or fisheries management. 

OTHER: Valid driver's license required. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of fisheries management techniques and aquatic ecology. Good communication and public speaking skills; ability to maintain simple records and complete surveys on a laptop; ability to operate hand and power tools (heated power sprayers); ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicator License; ability to operate a pickup with trailer as well as a motor boat.
