Specialized Tax Services Compensation & Benefits Intern (Summer 2022)

BDO is a place for energetic self-starters who can think and act like entrepreneurs. A STS Compensation & Benefits Intern The Core Tax Services Intern will be responsible for utilizing his / her educational background and organizational skills to perform basic research and assist with various payroll, compensation and employee benefits issues. In this role, the STS Compensation & Benefits Intern will gather required client information necessary to prepare tax filings and utilize tax software applications to complete simple tax returns under the supervision of more experienced STS Compensation & Benefits professionals. Essential Duties/Functions : Research
- Identifies simple situations when research is necessary providing an outline of the issue(s) and the appropriate source of research to be conducted
- Analyzes researched facts and the sources utilized prior to composing a detailed report of the research findings

Tax Compliance
- Ensures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”)
- Obtains required client information to utilize in the preparation of tax filings
- Applies the industry standards, along with the policies outlined within the BDO Tax Quality Manual
- Accomplishes basic tasks and documents and organizes work product for review by senior STS Compensation & Benefits professionals

Tax, Compensation and Benefits Consulting
- Reviews tax laws and compensation issues relevant to assigned clients to identify potential benefits to decrease the clients’ current and future tax liability
- Monitors tax and executive compensation rules and client factual developments

ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals
- Correctly and proactively applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48
o Assists with components of income tax provisions

Strategy Development
- Assists in the preparation of studies of tax implications to identify alternative courses of actions to benefits clients
- Develops an understanding of the impact of a client’s business objectives as it relates to the client’s tax situation

Other duties as required
*Qualifications : Education:
- Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or other relevant field required
- Pursuing a masters degree in Accounting or other relevant field preferred

Experience:
- Leadership experience preferred

License/Certifications:
- Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA

Software:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
