Director of Production

Director of Production
Reporting to the CMO/Head of Digital Content, the Director of Production plays a key role within Skybound Entertainment where we are delivering online content, experiences, and exclusive product to fans of comics, video games, and board games.   The Director of Production will be responsible for managing a digital production department, while also getting involved in the day-to-day planning and running of live video/audio productions. They will lead an existing team and be a subject matter expert within the organization, driving Skybound to grow our audience and monetize our online communities.  

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Inspire a team to deliver digital content experiences that grow our audience, engage our community, and generate revenue on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, and TwitterExperiment with growth in mind, through ongoing testing of new technologies in social media and online video, as well as research and pilot new digital production capabilities
  • Manage a department of producers and editors delivering content for Skybound and partners
  • Collaborate closely with our internal teams (e.g. marketing, accounting, and legal), creators-in-residence, and agency partners to conceptualize, develop, and deliver creative programming
  • Produce and lead individual productions with brand Producer & Production Coordinator
  • Develop and own budgets for all programming, including but not limited to livestreams, online and in-person events, daily audio/video programming, branded partnership activations, and in-house creator brands
  • Create and maintain monthly and annual budget for brands
  • Deliver timely quarterly cost reporting on brands
  • Approve expenses for individual productions
  • Create and maintain production management infrastructure (payroll, insurance policies, etc.)
  • Coordinate asset requests and deliveries with post supervisor and post-production team
  • Network and maintain list of freelance talent/creators and behind-the-scenes crewmembers

Requirements:
  •  A strong passion for online video content, video games, boardgames, film/tv, or comic books
  • 3 years managing online video teams and departments across multiple brands/franchises including partnering with external brand agencies and studios
  • 3 years of digital production experience P&L management (i.e. video production costs)
  • 5 years planning and executing metric-driven projects in the digital video space
  • Understanding of NewTek Tricaster and livebroadcast production workflows\
  • Ability to make smart budget decisions about production level for premium and staple content
  • Hold teams to high standards of production quality, storytelling, innovation, and credibility
  • Experience developing team goals to focus on new success metrics (platform revenue, direct sales, watch time, loyalty, etc.)
  • Understand how to give the right feedback to get the best work from creative individuals
  • Be able to problem solve in many areas, including resourcing, business, people, and creative
  • Use data and insights to help producers make important creative decisions
  • Production experience as an on-set director is preferred
