Overview

Under the general supervision of the Director, conducts contractual studies or research which is relatively broad in scope and which requires decisions as to methodology employed. Will oversee and execute complex studies that are veterinary intensive requiring integration of disciplines. Plans, conducts and supervises research requiring fundamental scientific knowledge and advanced knowledge toxicology, biology, and/or infectious disease. Will require working in a regulated environment. Reports results in the form of contract deliverables including study reports or data summaries, open literature publications, and presentations at scientific meetings.

Qualifications

Requires a PhD in Toxicology, Biology, Virology, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, or a directly related field and a minimum of 2 years of directly related research experience. Must have demonstrated ability to handle fundamental scientific tasks. Published and/or presented original research. Requires research experience in specific area of toxicology or virology. 
 
Requires professional-level computer skills and advanced experience with Excel, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed. 
 
Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism and excellent problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team as well as the ability to maintain confidential information.
 
This position will involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which will require vaccinations/immunizations. Ability to obtain and maintain Select Agent clearance is required. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.


Preferred/Additional Qualifications

 In addition to a PhD in a directly related field, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from AVMA accredited veterinary college or ECFVH foreign equivalency certification is preferred.  
 
Comprehensive knowledge of complex technical areas, techniques, and research in specific area of science. Must have the knowledge and ability to ensure compliance with USDA standards and the Animal Welfare Act, The Guide for the Care & Use of Laboratory Animals, NIH Public Health Service Policy, and AAALAC guidelines.
 
 

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience.
