Resident Counselor

Job Description

Crotched Mountain Residential Counselor
The Resident Counselor instructs, supervises and assists residents with activities of daily living through daily routines and to carry out scheduled activities and programs.
Job Description:
· Assists clients as necessary and contributes to the maintenance of the home as a quality living environment.
· Supports the safety of all individuals in everyday situations.
· Performs and teaches housekeeping responsibilities as appropriate.
· Completes required record keeping, data collection and documentation.
· Follows all client programs including Behavior Plans, Therapeutic Mealtime Protocols and any other individualized programs.
· Follows each client’s individual service plan goals and objectives and routines for completion of daily tasks.
· Administer prescription medications and/or over the counter topical treatments as prescribed by the physician and under direction of Residential Life Leadership and in accordance with state, federal and agency standards and regulations.
· Actively seeks opportunities to contribute to positive outcomes for individuals served.
· Supervises activities which are appropriate to each resident’s capabilities.
· Assist residents in the performances of residential programs and daily routines.
· Ensures residents are dressed appropriately, in a manner which respects their human rights and dignity.
· Assists residents in preparing well-balanced meals.
· Teaches and reinforces the use of communication techniques and devices to meet the individual’s needs.
· Provides opportunities for planned and spontaneous community activities, fostering consumer interests, choice and self-development. Accompany clients on community, spiritual and recreational activities
· Assists individuals with motor exercises designed to increase physical coordination.
· Attends program staff meetings, orientation and in-service training sessions.
· May be required to acquire a working knowledge of sign language, alternative augmentative communication systems and knowledge of the deaf culture dependent upon the population served.
· Demonstrates flexibility to effectively handle day-to-day work changes, shifting priorities as necessary.
· Responds positively to change and uncertainty.
· Shares information with others and encourage cooperation in coping with change.
· Accurately assesses problems and effectively and efficiently arrives at appropriate solutions.
· Looks at problems by assessing available information and resources.
· Makes effective decisions within limited time that resolves the problem or situation.
· Informs supervisor and uses established methods to solve common problems.
· Performs other duties as needed and/or directed
Qualifications:
· Over 21 years of age
· Experience working with children
· Experience with the Autism population preferred
Required Skills:
· Excellent communication skills
· Excellent paperwork and attention to detail
· Empathetic
· Must be in good physical health to be able to assist residents physically with their needs (bathing, dressing, eating, behaviors)
Work Hours/Pay:
· Up to 40 hours a week as per shifts assigned
· $14/hr
· Flexible schedule and placement during shifts
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
