Summer Trip Leader/Unit Leader

Enjoy tent camping and want to work with youth? Join us to teach youth outdoor skills, lead backcountry camping trips, and lead a team of staff in giving girls the experience of a life time. This Staff member will be a Unit Leader assigned a group of 3-6 staff and 3-16 girls to teach outdoor skills in line with Girl Scout programs. Weekly groups include 1st-3rd grade campers, 4-6th grade campers, and middle and high school campers. The last 5 weeks of the program include a 5-day, 4 night backcountry trip to the Boundary Water Canoe Area in Minnesota, and a 4-day, 3-night beginner backpacking trip to Yellow River State Forest in Iowa.

This position is also responsible for gear maintenance and some trip planning. Girl Scout camp is girl-led, so some planning will be with campers. For larger trips, the Trips Lead will be partnered with another senior staff or Unit Leader.

Must be able to live on-site for the employment period. Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license. Extreme weather conditions and temperatures may be encountered daily. This job includes long periods of time on your feet and walking on uneven terrain. Must be able to address stressful situations appropriately in a fast-paced, interactive environment. Must be Emotionally resilient and capable of appropriate and sustained mental, emotional and social interactions in a constantly changing, youth-centered and community living setting.
