School Data Project Specialist - Immunizations Internship

Internship Title: School Data Project Specialist
Office/Program Area: Immunizations Division 
Job Description/Responsibilities: 
An accurate and comprehensive school vaccination coverage assessment program is critical to enable immunization program managers to set objectives, plan strategies, and direct available program resources to effectively protect individuals in child care and school settings from vaccine-preventable diseases. The Immunization Division conducts school vaccination assessments in cooperation with Indiana school corporations, Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Immunization Coalition, the Indiana Association of School Nurses, and the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health. The ISDH Immunization Division uses school entry vaccination coverage data to monitor school compliance with Indiana Code (IC) 20-34-4-6. ISDH is required to report school vaccination coverage data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) each April. The School Data Project Specialist will conduct a detailed data analysis of 2020-2021 school immunization data to produce school-level performance reports. 
  • Assess school-entry (kindergarten), 6th grade, and 12th grade vaccination coverage and exemption levels.
  • Develop 2020-2021 coverage report cards for all applicable schools for the Kindergarten Vaccination Assessment Questionnaire. 
  • Provide school-specific coverage and exemption data to schools, school corporations, state departments of education, local health departments, and other stakeholders.
 Qualifications: 
  • Working toward an degree in epidemiology, public health, health informatics, data science, physics, computer science, statistics, or other closely-related field
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented
  • Detailed knowledge of data analysis software, such as SPSS, SAS, and/or STATA
  • Demonstrated experience extracting, error-checking, and organizing data from a variety of sources for analysis and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience collecting and analyzing data
  • Demonstrated experience employing exceptional written and verbal communication skills that include clearly presenting information to stakeholders and staff of varying professional and learning levels
  • Demonstrated experience learning specialized software and computer programs
  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office products- Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated experience creating and publishing technical reports for internal and external audiences
