Drug Overdose Prevention Intern

Internship Title: Drug Overdose Prevention Intern
Office/Program Area: Trauma and Injury Prevention
Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention focuses on data collection, surveillance, and the promotion of evidence-based prevention strategies and promising practices; coalition building and offering technical assistance to community members working on injury prevention education and policy; and collaboration with other state agencies to reduce intentional and unintentional injuries and violence. While the Division was formed in 2011, foundational program work started in the early 2000’s and has grown to include the Indiana Trauma Registry, Indiana Violent Death Reporting System, Drug Overdose Prevention (DOP) team, and numerous other trauma and injury prevention outreach efforts. The associate will be housed in the DOP team within the division, and will work to support the DOP team members in implementing grant activities and deliverables. The associate will report directly to the DOP Program Director.
  • Assisting with grant writing and reporting, including evaluation efforts.
  • Assisting with providing oversight of grant subrecipients.
  • Carrying out drug overdose-related small scale research projects.
  • Developing material for division newsletters and communication messages.
  • Creating drug overdose-focused infographics and presentations.
  • Assisting with website and mobile application upkeep and creation of new website material. 
  • Attending drug overdose-focused virtual conferences and events.
  • Attending staff meetings, including weekly Trauma and Injury Prevention meetings, weekly DOP meetings, monthly meetings with federal grant overseers, various stakeholder meetings, and more.
  • Supporting any other division efforts as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). A writing sample is required.
  • Knowledge of public health terminology is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with multiple and fluid demands.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and be detail-oriented. 
  • Hours are flexible, though a commitment of approximately 15-20 hours/week is preferred

  • Sedentary desk work.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to: stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard
