Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Summer Intern

Internship Title: Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Summer Intern

Job Description: 
The intern will work alongside the Tobacco Epidemiologist and will primarily focus on creating and maintaining county-level data visualization tools. Additional projects may include working with Indiana Tobacco Quitline data and updating or maintaining communication related items for the Vape Free Indiana initiative. Intern may also be assigned other projects and tasks, as time allows.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Become familiar with Tobacco Prevention and Cessation mission and vision, history, structure and goals.
  • Become familiar with Vape-Free Indiana elements and develop ability to communicate details of initiative to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Become familiar with current state and county-level data metrics related to tobacco use and secondhand smoke, and how they are shared.
  • Provide assistance to the Epidemiologist in the tracking and evaluation of Vape-Free Indiana programs and initiatives, including school programming, mass media campaigns, and cessation resources
  • Develop and maintain county specific data visualization tools with guidance from Tobacco Prevention and Cessation staff.
  • Become familiar with Indiana Tobacco Quitline (ITQL) data and reports.
  • Data entry for ITQL data and exploratory analyses related to cessation services utilized in Indiana.
  • Ability to work independently.
Necessary Skills and/or Qualifications: 
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices
  • Experience in the use of statistical software for data analysis
  • Considerable knowledge and competence in using software applications including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Publisher preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with health care and public health professionals, agency staff, and other stakeholders both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and representatives of State, Local, Federal and private partner agencies
  • Ability to prepare written project summaries and other communications materials
  • Ability to work independently
Working Environment:
  • This Intern will work remotely.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required
  • Ability to sit at a computer for an extended period of time
