Communications, Social Media, and PR Internship (Summer 2021 -- Remote)

Undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in using their social media and communications skills to promote human rights and world citizenship are encouraged to apply for this 3 to 4 month, 4 to 8 (or more) hours per week internship (hours are flexible). This Summer 2021 internship session will be held online.

Interns will:
  1. Use social media to advance the goals of the organization;
  2. Create written content for social media platforms;
  3. Create and produce images, video, photos, art and graphic designs for social media posts and platforms;
  4. Use Internet and desktop publishing tools to provide information, improve documentation, create brochures, publications and flyers, and promote the organization;
  5. Update website content and develop new websites;
  6. Initiate new outreach and networking projects;
  7. Contact individuals and organizations to seek funding for and partnerships with the organization;
  8. Research grant and PR opportunities;
  9. Draft and submit grant proposals;
  10. Create and manage online crowdfunding campaigns;
  11. Contact individuals and organizations to promote the goals and principles of the organization;
  12. Respond to public requests for information about the organization;
  13. Research opportunities to meet with the public in various peace, human rights, environment, etc. conventions, meetings, panels and other forums.

Qualifications: Excellent communication skills required, art and graphic design skills preferable, video and photographic skills preferable, and multi-lingual applicants (especially Arabic, French, and Spanish speakers) are preferred. Ability to write to and communicate with individuals and organizations persuasively, courteously, empathetically, concisely and efficiently. An interest or activism in peace, law, sustainability and global politics is helpful.

The Communications, Social Media and PR Internship provides experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in communications in a professional setting. Student interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in the fields of international relations, non-profit public relations, and issue-oriented social media. The internship provides hands-on training, allowing students to take their classroom learning into a real world experience. Students will gain skills and knowledge that will prepare them for work in the communications field in the non-profit sector and will engage them in international relations. Interested applicants are encouraged to read our "Internship Training Plan" that details the learning objectives/goals of the internship program that are related to the professional goals of the student’s academic coursework. The Traning Plan is an attachment that can be viewed on our organizational profile page in Handshake. The internship program is conducted and supervised by a human rights lawyer and public speaker with more than 30 years' experience in the fields of human rights, international law, and international relations. Student interns will receive daily feedback by the experienced supervisor and will have the resources, equipment, and facilities provided by the organization to support the students' learning objectives/goals.
