Engineering Fellowship

About the Engineering Fellowship Program
UNandUP, LLC develops disruptive technologies in robotics, magnetics, and nanomaterials to address critical unmet needs in healthcare. We advance the state of the art in medical devices and invest in talented people who can become key members of startup teams as the technologies are spun out into discrete companies. Our name, which refers to Unmet Needs and Underserved Populations, reflects our focus on solving critical problems requiring immediate solutions. UNandUP’s Engineering Fellowship Program is a six-month residential fellowship in St. Louis, MO open to post-baccalaureate engineering graduates and early career professionals interested in early-stage entrepreneurship who seek to develop an expertise in interventional medical applications. The fellowship program applies technical and business expertise to novel and challenging medical needs.
Engineering Fellows will design and construct novel test equipment for medical device development, conduct bench and preclinical animal testing, and will pursue an individualize research path. Each fellow will be mentored by an experienced UNandUP engineer. Engineering Fellows will be expected to conduct independent research related to new grant opportunities. This effort will include supporting journal article research, conducting interviews with stakeholders, drafting research plans for proof-of-concept development, and commercialization assessment. Fellows will participate in preclinical development efforts to further develop and extend their skillsets.
UNandUP LLC is a medical technology development organization founded in 2018 by highly experienced, serial entrepreneurs. We leverage a history of obtaining nondilutive grant dollars in rigorous NIH competition to fund highly disruptive medical technologies from proof-of-concept through preclinical development.  When proven and de-risked, our core technologies will form the basis of new new series-A medical device startups.
The program offers structured opportunities to build expertise and skills through multidisciplinary guest lecturers, tours of local engineering resources, and one-on-ones on a weekly basis. Fellows will also have extensive opportunities to build ties within the vibrant biomedical start-up community of the St. Louis Cortex corridor, in addition to partners at nationally recognized research institutions, laboratories, and hospitals.
Fellows are expected to devote full-time to the fellowship position in order to meet program requirements. The program is expected to run from early July, 2021 through late December, 2021.
Successful completion of this program qualifies the Fellow for full-time employment with UNandUP in an Engineer position, including a pay increase along with a comprehensive benefits package with a 401(k) plan and/or tuition reimbursement.

Fellowship Stipend
The fellowship offers a stipend of $4,000 per month. Additionally, health and dental benefits will be offered through the company plan for the six-month period.
