Information Technology Intern

The IT Intern supports the IT team and Russell users in providing efficient and effective solutions to hardware and software issues as they arise. Responsible for installing and configuring hardware and software. Participates in development of new desktops, servers and applications. Reports to the Director of Information Systems.


  • Enters all data for Help Desk problems into an automated Help Desk system.
  • Provides support by assisting employees with hardware and software issues as they arise.
  • Recognizes, diagnoses and independently acts/resolves common system issues and error situations.
  • Remote support provided by using either phone, email, screenshare and chat to staff.
  • Installs and configures hardware, including workstations, printers, phones, etc.
  • Provides general assistance with internal software problems, internet questions, printer questions and conference room technology.
  • Installs and configures various workstation software. Updates workstation software and operating system patches as they become available.
  • Refers more technical problems to appropriate staff or outside technology partner after documenting specific problem; assigning priority for resolution; engages in follow up with employee to ensure problem has been resolved.
  • Creates and maintains workstation documentation.
  • Interacts with various hardware/software 3rd party vendors to resolve issues.
  • Performs workstation hardware upgrades based on the replacement cycle.
  • Performs other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES -
Should be pursuing a degree in Information Systems / Computer Sciences or equivalent experience. Should be familiar with desktop operating systems, basic computer hardware, local area networks and basic troubleshooting. Knowledge of Windows 7 and later versions, Windows Server and Active Directory. Experience with MS Office 2013 and later. Basic network configuration knowledge - TCP/IP. Basic printer configurations. Operating system and software upgrade experience. Must be able to prioritize and work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, occasionally in urgent situations. Must possess strong analysis, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot software and hardware issues on Windows workstations and printers is important. Must be able to install software and hardware upgrades. Possess ability to create and maintain technical documentation. Must possess and utilize effective verbal, written and listening communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, and vendors is crucial.
