Associate Scientist II - E.Coli Culture Scientist

The Associate Scientist II is responsible for all duties relating to expression of recombinant proteins in bacterial shake-flask cultures. Additionally, this individual is responsible for management of the E. coli culturing and processing rooms. The Associate Scientist II must interact closely with members of the purification team to establish a culturing schedule and to ensure that cultures are completed per specifications. The person in this role may also support E. coli fermentation, eukaryotic expression, protein purification and various other lab support roles as assigned.
 
 Responsibilities
 
The Associate Scientist II is expected to have good working knowledge of molecular biology and microbiology and is accountable for the responsibilities below:
    * Complete all laboratory work, including execution, analysis and reporting of E. coli culturing function and other manufacturing activities as needed
    * Maintain the E. coli culture and processing rooms
    * Prepare microbiological culture media and other culture reagents
    * Manage inventory of culture related raw materials
    * Transform E. coli with plasmid DNA
    * Express recombinant protein in E. coli or mammalian cells lines
    * Harvest E. coli cultures using centrifuges and TFF devices
    * Use and maintain laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, environmental shakers, centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, spectrophotometers, pipettes, tangential flow filtration, autoclave and pH meter
    * Maintain meticulous record keeping
    * Prepare and analyze cell lysates (SDS PAGE, Western Blot, Concentration Assays)
 
 Required Skills
 
    * Knowledge of documentation protocol
    * Good communication skills
    * Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    * Ability to manage time and multiple priorities to meet deadlines
    * Ability to work independently and as part of a team
 
 Must-Haves
 
    * A.S. in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field required; B.S. preferred
    * 1 or more years’ prior lab experience, preferably with E. coli and protein purification
 
 Work Hours/Shift
 
Monday-Friday – 8 am – 5 pm
