Summer Internship - Tax Internship (Cedar Rapids, IA)

About this position:
Help influence GreatAmerica’s future as a Tax Intern! This internship is designed to recruit the best and brightest accounting and/or finance students from four-year colleges and universities in order to strengthen our team for the future. The internship is structured for time to be spent supporting all areas of the tax team to include tax accounting, sales, property and income tax. The internship will be comprised of rotational work that varies within each area of the team, however, responsibility for certain duties will remain throughout the internship.
Additional specific responsibilities include:
  • Assist in the preparation of Federal and state provision for income taxes, including footnote disclosures in the audited financial statements.
  • Reconcile externally prepared Federal and state income tax depreciation reports to internal records.
  • Assist with Federal, state and local income tax quarterly estimated and extension payment processing.
  • Maintain and support the VAT compliance responsibilities for our Canadian subsidiary.
  • Assist in preparing the state property tax inclusive lease rate factors.
  • Assist with technical tax research as needed.
  • Make recommendations to management on ways to improve operational processes (i.e. reconciliations, data workflow etc.).
  • Assist with quality control reporting and system corrections where applicable.
  • Complete general ledger account reconciliation(s).
  • Participate in month-end closing including preparation and posting of journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly reporting for various external customer programs.
  • Live the GreatAmerica principles; get involved in cross-functional team efforts as assigned and required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education: Candidate must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with a minimum GPA of 3.25.
Experience: No previous work experience required, but prior internships or work in finance/accounting is considered a plus.
 
Skills and Abilities
Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word. Experience with Excel PowerPivot is a plus.
Other Requirements: Must have excellent analytical abilities and problem solving skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and possess outstanding computer skills. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with all levels of the organization. Must be an organized, creative, team-player with initiative. Must respond well to challenges and have a strong desire to learn. Must demonstrate sound business judgment
