Systems Administrator

SUMMARY 
Under minimal supervision, this position assists in managing assigned portions of a large Microsoft, or similar computer network or group of networks, typically consisting of approximately eight hundred or more workstations. Also responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, installation, and training tasks to enable users to maximize productivity.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 
· Create, manage, troubleshoot while using the correct management tools 
  o  User profiles in a Microsoft Active Directory environment. 
  o  Printers and their print queues in a Microsoft environment 
  o  Shared file folders 
  o  Anti-Spam user profiles 
· Prepare/configure Microsoft servers as required. 
· Monitor and troubleshoot physical servers and virtual servers in a VMWare environment. 
· Assist in anti-spam management. 
· Work in direct support of the Network Supervisor to assist in the successful completion of projects. 
· Review nightly backup process to ensure they were completed. 
· Notify appropriate personnel of failures. 
· Create documentation to support any new implementations of processes or hardware. 
· Use in-house technical training material that is available. 
· Proper and accurate completion of Help Desk tickets. 
· Interface with vendor support resources to achieve problem resolution. 
· Research vendor web-sites as a resource to achieve problem resolutions. 
· Identify, prevent and report any software license violations. 
· Maintain DNS/DHCP systems functionality. 
· Perform modifications as required. 
· Remote monitoring of network servers to ensure resource availability. 
· Assist in administering troubleshooting a complex network or group of networks typically consisting of around 800 or more workstations in Microsoft environment. 
· Assist in installing, configuring, troubleshooting Cisco, Microsoft networks, file servers, Ethernet networks, network cabling, and other related equipment, devices, and systems. 
· Add or upgrade and configure server and computer components to include but not limited to, CPUs, RAM DIMMs and hard-drives. 
· Assist in the management of network printers using associated management tools. 
· Perform and/or oversee software and application development, installation, and upgrades; and may maintain site licenses for department/organization. 
· Develop and conduct various training and instruction for system users on specific operating systems, and applications in use in the department/organization; assists users in maximizing use of networks and computing systems. 
· Support staff or work teams, either functionally or administratively 
· Mentor Network Tech 1 and PC Techs.. 
· Schedule and assign work projects for support and/or work group personnel. 
· Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.. 
· Accept and maintain Help Desk tickets as assigned. 
· Maintain a high level of security and confidentiality in regards to the data and information available on the DON Network. 
· Perform other duties as assigned. 
  
WORKING CONDITIONS 
· On-call 24x7 availability for a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks a month or as dictated by the on-call schedule. 
· Ability to lift 25 to 50pounds. Such as computers and peripherals. 
· Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings. 
· Minimal amount of travel to other facilities as required. 

External Qualifications
Required: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 2+ years of related help desk/network support experience or a equivalent combination of education and work experience. Network+ or CCNA Certification. Experience in VMWare 6.0 or higher, Commvault or similar backup technology. Cisco switches,firewalls and routers. Strong analytical skills, organizational skills and the ability to problem solve, multitask, and prioritize. Must be self motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and time management skills. Working knowledge of computer and/or network security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques. Can identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems. Ability to travel to other locations as part of a project. Potentially travel up to 5% a year.
 
Preferred: Bachelors Degree in relevant field, experience on Linux Operating Systems , Hyper-Converged Infrastructure. Server+ Security+, Microsoft Certifications and O365 experience
