The MacPherson lab is interested in how genetic, epigenetic, metabolic, and immunologic factors combine to drive lung cancer progression with the hope that a better understanding of these forces will lead to new therapies that can improve the poor prognosis facing many patients with lung cancer.

This position will support efforts to understand genetic and epigenetic variables in lung cancer by applying a variety of cutting-edge techniques spanning molecular biology, tissue culture, animal husbandry, genomics, protein biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. The ideal candidate will have experience in several of these areas and a strong interest in developing additional skills. The position will work under the direction of the principal investigator and senior laboratory research personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Use molecular biology methods to produce biological constructs for manipulation of cancer cells
  • Cell culture
  • Management of an animal cohort
  • Dissect and prepare biological tissues for further analysis
  • Isolation and analysis of nucleic acid and protein components of biological specimens
  • Immunohistochemistry on biological specimens
  • Preparation and characterization of enriched cell populations from biological specimens
