Summer 2021 Internship, Human Resources

  • This internship requires that you work in our office, which is located in Coralville, Iowa. Leepfrog does not pay for moving expenses or housing for internships.
  • This internship requires that you work a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • This internship is only offered during the summer of 2021. Exact dates TBD.
  • The intern must be within one to two years of graduation
  • The intern must attend an Iowa college or university or have graduated from an Iowa High School.

Overview
Leepfrog Technologies, Inc. provides its CourseLeaf software to more than 430 of the nation’s most academically complex colleges and universities to manage their academic catalogs, curriculum, section scheduling, registration, and syllabi management.

The Human Resources (HR) Intern supports the HR Manager with their day-to-day activities and special project(s). This internship will give the intern valuable, real-world experience, as well as providing support to the HR Manager. The intern will gain exposure to various HR functions during their 10-12 week internships and participate in at least one project to support HR initiatives. 

Duties
  • Assist HR Manager with employee-submitted questions. This includes drafting appropriate responses for HR Manager to share with employees.
  • Maintain outstanding customer service for Leepfrog employees.
  • Build guidelines and templates, and prepare drafts and final editions of documents.
  • Track projects by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
  • Act as a liaison between employees and the HR department by appropriately directing questions. Ensure follow-up with employees after answers have been determined.
  • Develop and maintain the most current HR knowledge. Participate in HR activities and/or special projects as required. Perform ad-hoc requests as needed.
  • Use discretion to affect timely solution of problems in order to ensure employee satisfaction.
  • Evaluate processes and make recommendations. Amend and revise processes in order to adapt to changes that occur.
  • Prepare agendas, reports, presentations, proposals, correspondence, and meeting notes as requested by the HR Manager.
  • Adhere to prescribed deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Project for Summer 2021
The Human Resources intern will be taking an in-depth look at job descriptions and classifications for all current positions within Leepfrog. Specifically research and determine:
  • Is the current job description up-to-date? If not, make recommendations for updating or composing.
  • What is the correct classification of the position? Should this person be exempt or non-exempt?
  • A secondary goal will be to determine the national and local salary estimate for each position (using several resources).
  • If any of the above change drastically, craft verbiage to help management communicate these changes to employees.

Qualifications
Must be pursuing or just completed a 4 year degree program and have a basic understanding of employment practices and regulations. Must be able to respectfully handle highly confidential information. Possess expertise with Windows OS, Microsoft Word & Excel, Firefox, and other computer applications. Customer service skills are required. The ideal candidate must be able to operate in an entrepreneurial, small company environment with the ability to adjust as needed.

Physical Requirements
The HR Intern will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The HR Intern may be located in a busy, open area office, and will be faced with regular interruptions.
