Research Technician II-III, Single Cell Sequencing

Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation’s first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women’s Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Careers Start Here.

At Fred Hutch, we believe that the innovation, collaboration, and rigor that result from diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases. The Fred Hutch Innovation Laboratory (FHIL) at seeks an enthusiastic and highly motivated technician to join a team of scientists working in a multi-disciplinary environment on the forefront of fundamental and immunotherapy research. FHIL is a new collaborative initiative of the Immunotherapy and Translational Data Science Integrated Research Centers (IIRC and TDS_IRC) with a mission to advance the introduction and development of new immuno-oncology research technologies. FHIL will spur in-house development and early adoption of novel techniques, including advanced single cell RNA spatial sequencing, T- and B-cell receptor sequencing, and other DNA/RNA-based technologies.

The successful candidate will test new technologies, compare and develop protocols and use these technologies to support ongoing research in immune-oncology. This person will be responsible for comparing and improving protocols, generating data to compare technologies, benchmarking technologies in collaboration with computational biology collaborators. The technician will perform bench-level experiments, operate analytical instruments, and compile and verify the accuracy of experimental data. The technician will also maintain detailed laboratory records, analyze data, and report on experimental results.

This position requires a high level of organization, a keen eye for detail, and accurate and thorough record keeping. • Maintain laboratory records of all testing and protocol development and report on the performed work as necessary.
  • Perform bench experiments, generate sequencing libraries, and compile other components of the downstream analysis of large experiments for immunotherapy researchers.
  • Maintain laboratory stocks, cultures, cell lines, reagents, and other supplies.
  • Manage a research database and maintain detailed electronic records.
