Consumer Loan Underwriter 1

The Consumer Lending team partners with other businesses across Wells Fargo to create and deliver transformational experiences that help customers gain access to credit. The vision for the Consumer Lending business is to leverage technology and data to make it simple for customers to easily access credit when and where they need it. Consumer Lending serves customers across the country through our distribution network of more than 5,300 retail banking branches and Home Lending offices, as well as online and digital channels.

 

The primary goal of the Home Preservation Department is to mitigate loss for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage while allowing the mortgagor(s) to retain their home.

 

The Consumer Loan Underwriter 1 is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, approving and underwriting routine individual consumer requests and products with few deviations within company and industry guidelines.

 

Functions will include:

•Reviewing credit applications, credit bureau information, collateral valuation, tax returns, financial statements, and/or other supporting documentation to recommend/approve requests within decisioning authority levels by way of automated scoring system or traditional underwriting.

•Assisting with the calculations and preparation of reports for review.

•Responding to customer inquiries and credit decisions.

•Ensuring credit files are current, complete, and compliant with company standards.

•Contacting customers and partners to gather information to make appropriate decisions, explain rationale behind credit decisions, and/or offering or recommending products based on customer needs.

 

*Hours: M-F, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

 

*Important* Successful candidates must currently have or be willing to obtain required Delegation of Authority level within 90-120 days of hire date

 

*Please Note: This position is currently working remotely but will be expected to work on site when Wells Fargo returns to a standard operating model.

 

Required Qualifications 

•6+ months of experience in one or a combination of the following: underwriting, processing, originations, or closing; or an AA/AS degree or higher; or 2+ years of military experience

 

Desired Qualifications 

•Basic Microsoft Office skills

•Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

•Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

 

Other Desired Qualifications 

•Mortgage industry experience

•BA/BS Degree in Finance, Business and/or Economics or related field

•Ability to provide strong customer service and develop customer relationships

•Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision and follow specific guidelines

•Ability to work in a dynamic production-oriented environment

•Ability to interact with integrity and a high level of professionalism with all levels of team members and management
