One Weekend PALS Summer Counselor

At our weekend (Saturday & Sunday) daytime camp programs, participants will take part in traditional PALS Programming modified to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the safety of all attendees.

Comprising more than 80% of the volunteer community, PALS counselors train for and attend our programs, building friendships with their pair, teammates, and the camp community at large. Many of our counselors have experience in the special needs community, but this is not a requirement to volunteer. We welcome individuals of all backgrounds & experience levels to apply! PALS is especially in need of volunteers who identify as male this season.

Volunteers will complete a 1-2hour remote volunteer training 1 month prior to the start of the program. On the weekend of their program, participants will be on-site from 9am-5pm Saturday & Sunday. Dates for each program can be found on our website. During the program, pairs and teams will engage in fun and friendship building activities, utilizing the outdoor landscape. Indoor space will be available in the chance of inclement weather. All activities will be COVID-safe, and teams will operate on a cohort model to minimize unnecessary contacts.

Volunteers will complete remote training prior to their program, and attend the on-site experience over the course of one weekend. Volunteers will be paired 1-1 with a peer-aged participant with Down syndrome and placed on a team of 4-5 other pairs and one head counselor. Participants will engage in activities together throughout the weekend and build friendships that will last far beyond their experience at PALS. Learn more and apply today here!
