Pharmacist’s Assistant- Medication Histories - 1.0FTE, Day/PM Shift

A Pharmacist Assistant’s primary responsibility is to improve medication safety by assisting pharmacists in collecting accurate home medication lists and allergy information for patients admitted to the hospital. This information is assimilated into the electronic medical record to decrease medication errors due to incomplete or inaccurate information.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • After hire: completion of Meriter Pharmacy’s Pharmacist Assistant training program
  • 2 years of Health care experience
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a fast-paced work environment
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • Microsoft Office applications
  • Internet applications
  • Use of phone/pager/fax/e-mail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Typing skills
  • Communication skills- fluent in English
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Preferred or Specialized Requirements:
  • Associate degree OR completion of/enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program at an accredited university
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Previous direct patient care experience
  • Previous work experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Epic Systems software operation
  • Basic medication facts- generic/brand drug names, formulation, indication, etc.
  • Basic healthcare facts- disease physiology, laboratory tests
  • Healthcare system resources to obtain medical information
  • Understanding formularies, medical charts, and legal issues related to pharmacy practice
  • Able to work as part of a team; balancing leadership and the ability to delegate while maintaining collaborative group efforts.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interactive skills when working with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, and a diverse patient population.
