Assistant Director of National Service Programs

Position Summary: 
Assist with the administration of two statewide National Service Programs at the Washington County Youth Service Bureau/Boys & Girls Club: the 21-28 member Vermont Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program (VYT) and the 44 fulltime and part-time member Vermont Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps State Program (VYDC).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Required / Essential Functions, Activities, Duties, and Tasks:
  •     Assist with member, supervisor, and alumni relations (e.g., answer questions, recruit members, facilitate meetings, conduct site visits)
  •  Assist in developing and maintaining operational systems (e.g., databases, e-files, processes)
  •  Assist in performing administrative tasks
  •  Assist in ensuring compliance (e.g., review and monitor member timesheets, review quarterly progress reports, compile report data and narrative)
  •  Assist with event and training planning (e.g., determine topics and presenters, work with presenters, manage logistics, draft agendas, facilitate, evaluate, document)
  •  Assist in maintaining communications and public relations (e.g., write correspondence, edit newsletters, manage social media, draft press releases)
  • Assist with grant writing and resource development (e.g., research topics, gather statistics, write proposals)

Optional / Marginal Functions, Activities, Duties, and Tasks:
  •     Ability to lift 30 pounds
  •     Ability to work in the evening and/or longer hours around 3 days a month (usually training days)

Qualifications:

1-2 years of administrative experience, preferred; BA, preferred; National Service experience,
    preferred

Skills:
Writing ability; organization; attention to detail; communication (verbal & written); planning (programs & events); computer (Microsoft Office Suite, Access Database, Google programs)

Attributes:
Mature; self-directed; team player; creative; honest; hard-working; open-minded; positive; kind

Working Environment
This is a fulltime position (37.5 hours per week), and the desk-space will be in an office shared with another person. Telecommuting some days is a possibility. Three days per month will be out of the office at member training; occasionally out of the office for supervisor training, staff planning retreats, and site visits. There are two other Assistant Directors, as well as two Leaders (one for VYT and one for VYDC) as part of the team; the team meets formally at least once a week. Many projects are collaborative, with each team member being responsible for particular aspects. All Bureau employees attend a morning staff meeting once a month. Some travel: site visits around Vermont, CNCS conferences and meetings, training and professional development opportunities, for which Bureau vehicles or rental vehicles may be available; private transportation strongly recommended. Some occasional evening or weekend hours.

Benefits Summary 2020
Compensation: 
This position is being offered at 100% FTE based on a 37.5 hour work-week. 
Pay Level: 
Level 6 - Program Assistant Director/Statewide : $37,000 to $43,000

Special Notes
Effective 1/1/2020, the WCYSB will offer insurance coverage for benefit eligible employees through either Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Vermont or MVP. The monthly premium contribution from the WCYSB will be $350 per employee. Blue Cross/Blue Shield and MVP offer multiple plans that employees may choose from. Additional premium costs associated with each plan above the Bureau’s $350 allocation will be the employee’s responsibility and are applied toward premiums as pre-tax payroll deductions.
