Youth Trainer (Maryland)

Job Title: Youth Trainer

Team: America Works of Maryland

Purpose: The Trainer will work with the America Works of Maryland and government agency partners to facilitate and develop job readiness and vocational skills workshops for Maryland’s most vulnerable populations. The ideal candidate has teaching experience, enjoys working with diverse groups of people, and is a self-starter looking to play a proactive role in helping job seekers discover their strengths, develop short- and long-term goals, and take actionable step towards career development. The staff member in this position will work closely with clients at our Columbia, Maryland location.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver engaging workforce development and job readiness trainings for youth ages 16-24 that relate to real-life scenarios in which job seekers might find themselves.
  • Prepare lesson plans, develop curriculum, and brainstorm new workshops that provide job seekers with skills related to making choices in their personal, academic, and professional lives.
  • Provide individualized support to clients during their job search efforts, higher education applications, personal and career assessments, and exam preparation.
  • Promote training calendar at new client orientations and refer existing clients to vocational classes, technical skills trainings, and other certification programs.
  • Facilitate feedback surveys, consult with program staff about the progress of clients, and determine training needs and priorities.
  • Maintain class enrollments, update daily attendance logs, submit weekly reports, and issue training certificates on a timely basis.
  • Model professionalism and inclusiveness, cultivate a safe environment for learning, and motivate clients towards finding full-time employment.

Requirements:
  • BA/BS Degree in Business, Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related field
  • MS preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Experience teaching or delivering training workshops for adults preferred
  • Comfortable working in a diverse environment
  • Ability to establish classroom norms and expectations while deescalating conflict as needed
  • Knowledge of Maryland’s social services system is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills are a must
