Plant Operations Assistant

Position Summary: The Plant Operations Assistant will assist in the Day to Day operations of the Dry Fertilizer plants. This will include regularly scheduled maintenance of fertilizer (dry and liquid) and seed handling equipment in season as well as fertilizer spreading equipment in the off season. 
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates application plans with facility, customers and drivers to maximize efficiency.
  • Promotes a customer-focused environment by providing friendly, courteous, and helpful service to coworkers and producers.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with customers.
  • Acts in a friendly, courteous, and helpful manner to build strong customer relationships.
  • Works extended hours as requested by supervisor to ensure customer needs are met during busy seasons.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment (primarily fertilizer buggy’s), completes annual inspections, and maintains records.
  • Maintains and repairs liquid trailers and pumps to ensure good operating condition.
  • Performs minor repairs and reports larger equipment problems to manager or mechanic.
  • Reports any unsafe equipment or working conditions to management.
  • Maintains a safe working area and keeps walkways clean of slip or trip hazards.
  • Performs housekeeping activities as needed.
  • Accepts and offers feedback and suggestions openly and respectfully.
  • Maintains open communication with management and coworkers.
  • Identifies and utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment while completing maintenance and repairs.
  • Follow all legal regulations and guidelines to maintain a commercial driver’s license.
  • Attend safety and job-related trainings as they become available.
  • Represent yourself and United Cooperative professionally at all times in action and appearance – positively enriching the culture of United Cooperative.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned my management.
Qualifications:
  • Must possess a positive attitude and be a team player.
  • Ability to operate forklift and payloader
  • Must be skilled and able to operate equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to remain on task.
  • Strong customer service skills.
License and Certification Requirements:
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (or the ability to immediately obtain).
  • Possess or obtain Commercial Applicator and Seed treater licenses.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to climb towers for regular maintenance
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
