Staff Climate Change Advisory Consultant (Entry Level)

  • ERM is seeking a motivated and dynamic Staff Climate Change Advisory Consultant to join our growing corporate sustainability and climate change advisory services practice in Washington, DC or Boston, MA.
  • In this role, you will work directly with senior climate change advisory consultants to contribute to the development and growth of ERM’s corporate sustainability and climate change business.  ERM delivers a wide range of climate change services including Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) analysis and reporting, strategy development, policy and regulatory analysis, target setting, and benchmarking.  We help clients, including global companies and financial institutions, develop and implement climate change programs across a broad range of industry sectors and contribute to climate, clean energy, and clean transportation policy development.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct desk-based research and synthesize research findings into key themes to develop conclusions, draft recommendations and clearly communicate written recommendations.
  • Review and summarize air, climate, clean energy, and clean transportation regulatory and legislative policy proposals.
  • Collect, manipulate, and analyze large datasets to frame technical climate topics for a range of applications
  • Analyze physical and transitional climate risks in alignment with the TCFD framework.
  • Support clients responding to the DJSI, CDP Climate Change, Water, and Forest Questionnaires, and other public disclosures.
  • Execute scope 1, 2 and 3 inventories with guidance from Partners, Senior Consultants or Project Managers.
  • Actively stay knowledgeable of climate changes trends, frameworks and protocols.
  • Analyze client documentation and identify improvement opportunities (gap analysis).
  • Prepare client deliverables; independently convert information into charts, tables and graphics.
  • Participate in client meetings and workshops, clearly articulate information, and maintain required documentation.
  • Assist in general business development research, marketing, and other development tasks.
  • Support ERM Partners and Project Managers to effectively manage projects;
  • take responsibility for project administration, such as agendas, project timelines, and
  • task tracking.
  • Think critically and strategically, helping to influence decision-makers and outcomes for our clients in terms of climate change.
  • REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with Master’s degree (preferred) in related field, quantitative skills consistent with a degree in engineering or basic/applied science (such as physics, chemistry, material sciences, environmental science, earth sciences, etc.) or economics highly desired.
  • Keen interest in energy and environmental topics.
  • Recent graduate to 3 years of related experience in air, clean energy, or climate policy with an understanding of GHG protocols and accounting..
  • Attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Superb written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface effectively within multiple levels of consulting staff and client personnel.
  • Penchant for service excellence and a collaborative style.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently with minimal supervision.  
  • High level proficiency in use of Microsoft Office programs—specifically advanced level Excel (ability to perform advanced equations/formulas, graph, learn new functions quickly (e.g. pivot tables, etc.), plus ability to present information succinctly and visually in PowerPoint; sophisticated data analysis a plus.
  • Ability to recognize when to ask for help and how to identify appropriate resources to accomplish tasks as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
  • Demonstrated interest in business consulting and environmental or social issues (through related coursework, previous employment, or personal endeavors).
