Behavior Interventionist

The Raymore-Peculiar School District is seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Behavior Interventionist. The Behavior Interventionist provides support to the instructional program and multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) with specific responsibilities for effecting positive behavioral change in students by building the capacity of staff working with them; analyzing data to drive decisions; providing observations, feedback, coaching, and when necessary, modeling, of classroom practices at all tiers to support a student(s); providing assistance to the Student Assistance Teams (SAT) process in developing tiered Behavior Intervention Plans and Building or Safety Plans; facilitating a smooth transition back to the school of residence for those students attending our alternative school and out-of-district placements; and conducting professional development sessions to staff.

Essential Functions of the position include:
  • Utilizes data to determine need-based decisions (e.g. function of behavior, rate of improvement, focus of support); does so in close coordination with the district School Psychologist.
  • Provides observation, feedback, coaching, and, when necessary, modeling of plan implementation, classroom management strategies, and supports.
  • Assists in developing procedures and training materials for district staff involved with (Regular and Special Education) students (e.g. functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention plans, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts workshops, training, and in-service presentations (e.g. positive behavior supports (PBIS), tier 1 classroom management techniques, CPI certification, substitute teacher trainings, etc.) for the purpose of developing skills, gaining and providing information, and/or discussing Special Education student needs.
  • Coordinates programs and services for students as needed or assigned (e.g. building safety plans, out-of-district placements, alternative school placements, transitions back to home school, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring program eligibility and compliance with established guidelines.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees (e.g. District Crisis Management Team, Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings, CARES teams, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. formal and informal observation reports, Functional Behavior Assessments, data collection forms, evaluation reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, providing audit references, making presentations, and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions.
  • Researches and remains current on behavior science and best practices of trauma-responsive schools (e.g. courses, materials, new interventions, etc.) for the purpose of providing input to the district MTSS team regarding staff training needs.
  • Responds to inquiries from the district school psychologist, student support coordinator, mental health professionals, the building process coordinator, and school administrators for the purpose of providing assistance in developing behavioral intervention plans.
Qualifications: 
  • Masters degree in job-related area is preferred, including but not limited to School Counseling, BCBA, LMSW, or Teaching.
  • Missouri certification or licensure in a related area required
Salary:  
  • Dependent on level of education and years of experience. 
  • Seventeen years of previous experience will be accepted toward placement on salary schedule
  • 189 days work calendar.
