ELP Teacher (Talented and Gifted)

Ames High School is seeking an ELP Teacher (Talented and Gifted) for the 2021-22 school year. 

MISSION STATEMENT

Summary
Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Extended Learning Program Teacher serves as an advocate for gifted students within the setting of the school community. The ELP Teacher works collaboratively with other ELP staff in order to develop a scope and sequence utilizing materials and activities appealing and appropriate gifted students, identify and review students for ELP participation, and evaluate program effectiveness, including feedback from ELP parents, students, and educators.


Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Helps classroom teachers recognize the affective and cognitive behavioral traits of gifted students.
  • Initiates and maintains communication with parents of gifted students in terms of student progress and program information.
  • Works with identified gifted students on a weekly basis providing activities appropriate for their affective and cognitive needs.
  • Works with high-ability primary students, utilizing creative thinking and logic activities, as a means of providing service to early childhood gifted and information identification.
  • Administers high-quality programming for talented and gifted student.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify talented and gifted students.
  • Facilitates individualized learning opportunities.
  • Facilitates whole group learning, partnering with ISU to provide student opportunities.
  • Supports staff and parents in working with talented and gifted students.
  • Creates a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all students and staff.
  • Attends work on a consistent and punctual basis.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Certified Teacher with a valid Elementary Education license required.
  • Talented and Gifted Endorsement (PK-12) required.
  • Ability to pass a background check required.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate building wide program.
  • Ability to interpret data.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of gifted and talented students.
