Supv-Medication Management/RN

The Nurse Supervisor is a psychiatric nurse who is able to manage one or more defined areas within an organized nursing setting. They are adept at negotiating conflict, collaborating with others with others and applying self-reflection to their practice. This nurse leader is responsible for the delivery of care, facilitating change and mentoring/developing all clinical and nursing support personnel in assigned departments. Works collaboratively with the RN Clinical Supervisor(s) & Clinical Educator (to provide clinical leadership) and other departments. Perform any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by VP of Nursing & Patient Care Services, for which qualified.

Responsibilities:
A)DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
·Assures that all documentation complies with Joint Commission and CMS regulatory standards (admissions, nursing notes, restraint flow sheets and medication documentation) and is completed timely as identified by internal policies.
·Assures Joint Practice Protocols involving clinical support staff are followed appropriately, accurately and timely. Review compliance with JPP through regular internal auditing processes.
·Provides forum for clinical case discussions.
·Assist in maintaining a work environment free from recognized hazards that create a risk of injury to employees, patients or visitors and that all accidents and incidents are reported by employees and properly investigated.When appropriate, assist with the return of all workers with work related injuries and illnesses to gainful employment.
·Anticipates and respond to potential safety issues.
·Provides mentoring and education formally and informally.
·Works collaboratively with Medical Leadership, Administration, Nursing Clinical Supervisor(s) and Clinical Educator to provide clinical leadership to Department.
·Ensures that the environment is therapeutic and facilitates the goals of the patient’s individual treatment plans.
·Ensures a patient report occurs and clinical decisions impacting patients’ individualized treatment plans are disseminated to staff as appropriate.
·Ensures principles of therapeutic communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary team are utilized at all times.
·Informs staff of executive level decisions, direction of the organization, as well as Key Performance Indicators.
·Provides adequate staffing for assigned areas of responsibility.
·Collaborates effectively with other Nurse Managers to maximize utilization of staff for direct patient care.
·Active member of the Nursing Leadership Committee.
·Represents nursing in a positive and professional manner at all times.
·Supports the direction and vision of the administration and assists in the implementation of change that facilitates continued fiscal responsibility and promotes optimal patient care.
·Recognizes need for ongoing and emergent education.Works collaboratively with others in the facilitation of staff education.
·Facilitates staff involvement as preceptors/mentors for students and new employees.
·Promotes a continuous teaching environment for staff, students and consumers.
·Identifies opportunities to improve patient care, develops and facilitates plans for improvement.
·Participates in hospital performance improvement functions.
oIdentify and implement process improvement plans
oConsistently shares PI and Quality data with nursing staff.
·Monitors trends in medication incidences, injuries and perception of care surveys and provides feedback to the team regarding patient care issues.
·Effectively utilizes individual, peer and group supervision promoting professional growth.
·Networks with peers at institutional, local, state, regional, and national level to promote personal, professional, and organization goals.
·Takes personal responsibility for knowledge and skill development related to psychiatric nursing and leadership.
·Understands and demonstrates ability to effectively and efficiently utilize resources.
·Participates in Acadia and/or EMHS community relations events.
·Encourages staff involvement in hospital wide initiatives.
·Recognizes positive contributions of others.
