Responsibilities
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow training position is available to study the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer metastasis. The training will be mentored by Dr. Peter Nelson and members of his research group.
The particular areas of emphasis for this position center on studies of the processes contributing to cancer metastasis. The focus includes defining the molecular mechanisms by which intrinsic drivers of the metastatic process as well as cell extrinsic factors – contributed by the microenvironment, influence metastases. We are recruiting a post-doctoral fellow to engage in laboratory-based studies of these processes. This is a basic and translational science position that focuses on delineating molecular mechanisms with the opportunity for translational studies evaluating prevention strategies and determining the efficacy and outcome of novel therapeutics. Specific projects include studies of tumor cell dormancy, organ site tropism, tumor heterogeneity, variation across cancer types (cell or origin, genotype, phenotype), and treatment strategies designed to overcome microenvironment-mediated resistance.
Training opportunities are provided through a highly multi-disciplinary research team that includes scientists with expertise in biochemistry, bioinformatics, single cell genomics, epigenetics, pharmacology and pathology. Our laboratory website provides additional information.
Qualifications
- M.D. degree or Ph.D. degree in biology; biochemistry; genetics; molecular biology; cell biology; immunology or related field is required.
- Additionally, experience in one of the following areas is required: medicine/urology, genomics/genetics, analysis of inflammation/immune composition, biomarker characterization. Knowledge/exposure in biobanking, clinical trial design, and biostatistics is desired, as well as a demonstrated track record of high-quality publications.
- Expertise/skills in molecular biology techniques is desired: RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, cell culture, drug toxicity assays.
- Candidates need to be highly-motivated, organized individuals who think independently but enjoy working as part of a dynamic, collaborative, and multidisciplinary team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
