Staff Accountant

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Professional staff provide controllership, review, and complex tax return preparation services for clients. Professional staff oversee client engagements. They also provide internal control and forensic accounting services, and assist paraprofessional staff with their duties.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Complete understanding and compliance with the firm's policies and procedures.
 Prepare complex tax returns
 Perform controllership and forensic accounting services for clients.
Monitor in-house and external deadlines to ensure compliance.
 Represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service
 May enter bookkeeping data for computer applications.
 May prepare sales tax returns for clients.
 May payroll tax returns for clients.
 Perform other duties as assigned by the firm's partners, management, or volunteered.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 Involves work in the firm’s office or on the client's premises. Work on the client's premises may require the use of the staff member’s personal car.
Must present a positive public image that enhances the client’s perception of the employee and the firm as a whole.
 Overtime hours required during tax season (January – April).
 
EXPERIENCE / TRAINING
 A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, a Bachelor’s degree in business with emphasis in accounting, or four years of experience in accounting work or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

 Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and the internal revenue code.
 Must be highly skilled in use of Excel Spreadsheets.
 Must be highly skilled in use of MS Word and must be a very good writer in order to handle the occasional administrative needs of the department.
Must have very good verbal skills, and have excellent analytical and observation skills.
Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
 Possession of strong organizational skills.
 Ability to work independently on assigned task as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
 Able to work effectively with partners, staff members, and clients.
