Paid Summer Journalism Internships

Give your summer internship experience the Dow Jones News Fund boost!

College students eager for a job in the journalism industry are encouraged to apply.

We place talented college students in paid, prestigious internships at news organizations across the country. Our interns receive specialized, hands-on training in one of four programs before reporting to work for the summer. Interns are paid a minimum of $450/week for 10-12 weeks. In 2021 we placed 86 interns in more than 54 newsrooms. Learn more about our media partners here.

We offer four tracks:

If you have a curious spirit, an appetite for investigative journalism and love numbers, data journalism is for you. Spend next summer asking tough questions, digging into government records and building interactive data visualizations that reveal untold stories. At the DJNF data journalism training, interns refine skills like making Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, learning computer-assisted reporting and analyzing and cleaning data.

DJNF digital media internships offers a broad range of opportunities for students to flex their various digital skills from video production, photography, podcasting, data visualization, graphic design, website design, audience engagement and social media management. At the DJNF digital media crash course we cover a little bit of everything--from analyzing web traffic and social media, to learning the latest visual and audio storytelling techniques--to make sure interns are ready to jump into our rapidly evolving media ecosystem.

If you love language, are passionate about accuracy, fact-checking, grammar and spelling, you have a future in editing. Editors assess copy for tone and style, write headlines, design print layouts, check sources and most importantly, they are the last line of defense before a news outlet publishes content. During the training, interns hone their visual design, headline writing and SEO skills; help publish high-quality content on deadline; and strengthen their news judgment.

Sharpen your reporting skills next summer telling the stories of young entrepreneurs and makers, mergers and acquisitions, workers and labor unions, tech startups, Black-owned businesses, stocks and bonds, cryptocurrency, real estate and so much more. Business journalists have a broad beat that covers the gamut. Spend a week learning all there is to know about the business beat from the best in the industry.
