Website Development Fall Internship

What:
Join a startup to develop InsurTech applications. Simply put, InsurTech makes insurance easier for people to use. Interns will be placed on a small team and choose tasks from our product roadmap to work on. Interns are also obligated to study course material and additional resources to achieve the core learning objective: Front-End Development, Responsive Design, Back-End Development, Web API, Software Documentation and Testing. Each week an intern will have both a learning and working assignment.

This is an autonomous internship, meaning interns will have to learn independently. This internship is not for students that want routine guidance. Interns need to explore and are expected to create, manage and report on their tasks. Interns will also present and educate others on their work. Tasks may include web app development, API integration, and creating documentation. Our codebase includes PHP, MySQL, HTML, JavaScript and CSS. Our stack/development environment includes GitHub, local desktop (I use XAMPP), bootstrap, and possibly a Linux VM.

This is an educational focused unpaid internship. By the end of the internship, the intern will be comfortable with full-stack development and working with web APIs. Here is the orientation slide show containing an outline of what interns will learn over the semester: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1G1RGAQGHMjDN1lcpnJafCLlTTOyq1j-uQPVYob-7h6Q/edit?usp=sharing

Who:
We are looking for someone who is self-driven, self-disciplined, analytical, and always trying to learn. Your supervisor is Toe Arkar. He is an experienced full stack developer with a Bachelor's in Computer Science. He has created many web applications from scratch. Throughout the internship he will provide workshops and training to improve your skills for your career.

When
Both full-time and part-time hours are available. We expect a minimum of 15 hours a week. After that, we are flexible with hours to fulfill school requirements. During the first two weeks, interns will be trained over several meetings. Interns will be given a handbook to help them learn the application, code, and tools needed to fulfill the project and achieve learning objectives. There will be at least one meeting a week with the supervisor and more for team and training purposes as needed. Interns may work together on assignments and projects.

Where:
This is a remote-based internship which means that meetings and work will have no definite location or office hours. This means that interns will need to find a consistent 30-minute time slot in their schedule to meet each week. We will use Discord for communication and video calls.
