Entry Level Network/Communications Administrator

This role provides the design, maintenance and support of communications and network systems at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) located in Ballston Spa, NY. 

The Naval Training Computing Systems (NTCS) organization is responsible for all aspects of the computer networks utilized at NPTU. This includes design of the network, selection of components, installation and configuration of the components. The group also is responsible for installation and setup of COTS software. The organization establishes the cyber security controls and routinely monitors the network to ensure the network is functioning as designed. The successful candidate will work in a technically diverse and dynamic environment with a team for support of the IT environment used for training the Navy and will be involved in multiple aspects of supporting and managing the network and cyber security program. 

Required Skills *

Associate:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university

Intermediate:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years relevant experience; or
  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year relevant experience 

Preferred Skills
  • Ability to research and solve complex problems
  • Experience with installation, configuration and troubleshooting of COTS hardware and software.
  • Experience in configuring MS Windows clients and servers on a network. 
  • Experience with firewalls and switches.
  • Experience with the design, installation, and configuration of virtual environments. 
  • Experience in system administration including Active Directory, Group Policies and administration of users and computers
  • Ability to write queries and scripts 
  • Exposure to software methodologies.
  • Experience with installation, configuration and troubleshooting of COTS software.
