Staff Planner

The City of Bryan is currently accepting applications for Staff Planner. This position performs a wide-range of duties involved in providing professional and technical assistance and support to the City's land use planning team.

Hiring Rate:
$45,700-$57,650/yr (depending on qualifications)

Responsibilities include:
  • Assists with planning and development review responsibilities and administration of City ordinances and guidelines through the development review process.
  • Assists in current planning activities, including requests for site plan approval, zone change, conditional use permits, planning variances, right-of-way abandonment, exceptions to subdivision regulations as well as final plat and replat requests; provides case management in accordance with policies and procedures established for the development review process.
  • Explains development policies, procedures, and ordinances to assist citizens and the development community.
  • Prepares staff reports and make presentations at Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Historic Landmark Commission, other community meetings and/or City Council meetings as needed.
  • Prepares, commits to, and implements a structured, self-directed program for continuing professional education that leads to certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP); fulfills other professional education obligations as may be required; subscribes to AICP Code of Ethics.
  • Performs additional related duties as required.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in urban planning, geography, architecture, landscape architecture, economics, business, public administration or a similar field of study plus at least four (4) years of directly related experience; OR a Master's degree with major coursework as listed above plus at least two (2) years of directly related experience. Equivalent combinations of related education and experience may also be considered.
  • Project management, development review and/or municipal government experience preferred, but not required.
