Therapist/Counselor - LPC/LCSW or license eligible

Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is actively seeking an highly-motivated individual skilled in leadership and communication to fulfill the role of Counselor/Therapist. The ideal candidate will have a positive demeanor and sharp attention to detail, will demonstrate consistency and reliability, and must have a heart for helping mentally and behaviorally disabled teenage boys.

Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is a residential treatment hospital that serves adolescent males with intellectual disabilities, psychiatric disorders, and behavioral problems. As part of the Staunton, Virginia community for more than 16 years, Liberty Point has provided treatment, education, rehabilitation, recreation, and cultural exposure through community outings, while also providing a safe environment. Our program prepares these young men for return to a home, a less restrictive environment, or to independent living. Our primary focus is on encouraging constructive change and personal growth, learning positive ways to get appropriate attention, improving behavior choices, developing a sense of responsibility for actions, learning problem-solving skills, and developing thinking patterns that support positive relationships.

Liberty Point is currently recruiting for a Counselor/Therapist, who will provide mental health treatment services for residents and their families. This includes individual, family, and group therapy, as well as scheduling and facilitation of treatment team reviews and timely documentation. Required skills, knowledge, and abilities must be documented and observable in the application form and interview.

Must be licensed (LPC, LCSW, etc.) or license eligible.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides psychotherapy services for residents to include individual, family and group therapy; scheduling and facilitation of treatment team review, and timely documentation of all services.
  • Attends all treatment teams for assigned residents.
  • Attends weekly clinical supervision and individual supervision as scheduled.
  • Coordinates multifamily/group/family education group.
  • Staff training
  • On call/weekend coverage
  • Completes all therapy session notes by the end of the day seen.
  • Completes psychosocial assessment with in 72 hours of admission.
  • Completes charge tickets daily and turns in to DCS.
  • Monthly treatment team reports are due the day prior to treatment team.
  • Other duties as assigned based on the needs of the facility.

Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in a human services field (i.e. psychology, social work, counseling, education)
  • At least one year recent experience with appropriate population preferred

Must be able to:
  • Assist in management of aggressive and/or impulsive physical and verbal behaviors
  • Successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De-escalation Crisis Intervention Training
  • Effectively perform facility approved First Aid and CPR techniques (CPR, First Aid, and HWC training will be obtained during new employee orientation)

Salary is competitive and commensurate to education and years of experience.
