Job Description:

The Sign Language Interpreter III is responsible for providing accommodations to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in campus courses/events. 
 
Duties & Responsibilities:

•Provides accommodations to students who are Deaf/hard of hearing (sign language interpretation/transliteration; C-Print captioning) in college, vocational, or community education courses and in other college contexts such as: Student Life or campus events; advisement; and meetings with faculty
•Provides academic advisement to students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
•Provides faculty consultation and training on accommodating students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
•Coordinates interpreter/captionist schedules
•Tutors students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
•Serves to provide a range of support for students who are Deaf/hard of hearing that relates directly to retention and program completion
•Monitors the progress of assigned students and services provided
•Works with the ACCESS Department to assist with scheduling, provide back-up and substitute interpreter/captionist coverage

Minimum Requirements: 

•Bachelor’s degree and six (6) years of experience in the field
•RID National Certification (NIC or the equivalent)
•Trained in C-Print or be trained within 6 months of hire
•Demonstrates ability to interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English for both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign tasks
