Volunteer Coordinator

Summary

Do you have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy meeting new people in a fast-paced environment? Help our Meals on Wheels department feed more than 900 homebound seniors in the Corridor area so they can stay home longer, healthier, and more affordably today!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Supporting the recruitment of Horizons’ volunteers, including the development and implementation of marketing and communications plans.
  2. Building relationships with local civic, business, and service partner organizations to develop and/or utilize volunteers.
  3. Following onboarding procedures for volunteers in conjunction with best practices.
  4. Maintaining records on all volunteers.
  5. Effectively communicating with volunteers.
  6. Reporting to staff on volunteer activities as needed.
  7. Developing ongoing volunteer utilization opportunities.
  8. Serving as a liaison between Horizons and volunteers.
  9. Assisting in creation of volunteer recruitment materials.
  10. Managing assigned agency special event planning and implementation.
  11. Delivering Meals on Wheels’ meals as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
An Associate’s degree or related experience in coordinating and supporting volunteers. Must be proficient with computers and Microsoft.

SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS:
This position has no direct staff supervisory responsibilities, but does supervise volunteers.

HOURS AND SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required to support volunteer recruitment and/or events.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, detail oriented, and organized. Must possess the ability to maintain a positive consistent attitude in working with volunteers, staff, and clients. This position is a mandatory child abuse and dependent adult abuse reporter and must be re-certified every five years.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must provide vehicle for own transportation.
  2. Must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license.
  3. Must possess valid auto insurance.
  4. Must supply all needed records
  5. Must be able to pass a criminal history and child and dependent adult abuse background check.
  6. Must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment, off-site venues, and outside event areas in various weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
