Volunteer Program Fall Intern - Los Angeles, CA

TITLE: Volunteer Program Intern

REPORTS TO: Volunteer Coordinator

LOCATION: Internship offered both at the NKLA Pet Adoption Center {1845 Pontius Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90025} and the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center {15321 Brand Blvd, Mission Hills, Ca 91345}

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Best Friends LA is looking for qualified interns to join our team. As a non-profit we have a very large volunteer base and it is constantly growing. We’re seeking interns who can provide administrative and on-site support to the Volunteer Coordinators and the Best Friends Los Angeles volunteer program. Interns should be prepared to join a fast-paced environment and finish the internship having gained broad experience in coordinating volunteers and learning about animal welfare. Part time and full-time interns may apply. This internship is offered for academic credit. You must be a participant in an accredited academic internship program. This is an unpaid internship and housing is not provided. Start date is flexible.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
• Act as on-site lead for volunteers when Volunteer Coordinator is not in the office
• Manage inquiries to prospective and current volunteers via phone and email under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator 
• Coordinate weekly volunteer trainings 
• Assist with planning and coordinating volunteers for large-scale special events  
• Data entry into Digital Cheetah, ShelterLuv and other databases 
• Other duties, as identified by Volunteer Coordinator 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Competency in MS Office applications and Google (including email and shared documents) 
• Good communications skills, both oral and written 
• Excellent organizational and time management skills 
• Team player 
• Ability to advocate Best Friends approach and mission 
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
To be considered for this position you must be currently enrolled in a college/university internship program. 
CREDIT: 
College credit toward related major, minor or general electives. 
START DATE: 
On or near the first day of the semester, negotiable. 
END DATE: 
On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable. 
HOURS PER WEEK: 
To be determined, dependent upon total number of hours required to complete internship. Preferably 10-15 hours per week.
