Senior Research Scientist – Cloud Compute and Containerization

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an outstanding opportunity for you to join a diverse team and build novel solutions in emerging technological areas for US defense and intelligence communities. We want you to apply if you have experience in software development and would like to work in any of the following areas: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or similar cloud-compute architectures; deployment of software at scale using Docker, Kubernetes, and other cloud architecture toolsets; containerization of software modules in a Linux environment; continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines in cloud environments; message queues and database systems; data management and container deployment at scale. Remote working is acceptable for successful applicants.

You will be working on developing and evaluating prototype systems that process sensor data to solve multi-disciplinary problems. This may include building pipelines that process large amounts of ground and satellite imagery, performing intense computations at scale, and store the results in secure, customer-facing systems. You will be able to apply your expertise to develop new containers with a variety of underlying programming libraries, including cutting edge machine learning and computer vision algorithms. Other responsibilities may include preparation of oral and written reports, supporting R&D business acquisition and customer briefings, presenting research results at scientific / engineering conferences and publish in technical journals.

Senior Research Scientist – Cloud Compute and Containerization Required Experience & Skills:
  • US Citizenship (applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information)
  • Master of Science (MS) degree or above in a related discipline (computer science, mathematics, physics, robotics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, etc.)
  • Strong foundation in software development
  • 5+ Years relevant work in the following areas: cloud computing and deployment on any platform (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)
  • Experience with Linux systems administration
