Actuary Intern

As an Actuary Intern, you will play a key role in Pacific Life’s culture. Interns will have the opportunity to spend their summer in Southern California or Omaha, Nebraska working at a Fortune 500 company in the financial services industry. Interns will be exposed to a diverse array of challenging actuarial projects and financial project platforms. Interns are placed on various teams within the Life Insurance, Retirement Solutions, Corporate, and Institutional Divisions. Program highlights include:
  • Divisional Rotation Events: You will be invited to a series of interactive presentations in which key actuaries throughout the company will provide an overview of their department and job duties as well as their experiences as an actuary. This will include exposure to Modeling, Risk Management, Product Design, Pricing, Valuation, and more.
  • Product Training: You will be trained on Pacific Life’s Retirement Solutions and Life Insurance products to ensure you start your summer internship with a high-level understanding of what we offer to our customers.
  • Mentoring: You will be assigned an Executive mentor who will meet with you to discuss their knowledge and experience and provide you with guidance on your internship and even your career path.
  • On The Job Training: You will be participating in actuarial projects that will give you a true understanding of the profession. These projects are pivotal in contributing to the goals of the interns’ team and the company overall. Some past projects include: Creating dashboards to visualize data, Automating processes and calculations, Rider Analysis, Cash Flow Analysis, and Creating tools for efficiency.
  • Other Training: You will receive additional training in Microsoft Excel, R Studio, and presentation skills to name a few. These eLearning and instructor led courses will set you up for success and expose you to critical business skills. 

Factors for Success
  • Completion of at least 1 Society of Actuaries exam is required.
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or Actuarial Science.
  • Ability to problem solve and demonstrate leadership.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Desire to gain more experience in the actuarial field.
