Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Intern

Position: Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Intern
Location: Eagle Mine, Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA

General Description: Support operation of water treatment plants while gaining knowledge of techniques & processes. Assist in exploring new treatment possibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in assuring that plant operates within required standards.
• Collect and analyze samples of water or waste at different stages of the treatment process.
• Work with hazardous chemicals using proper safety practices.
• Monitors performance of electrical systems, circuits or equipment. Notifies WTP Techs of any problems.
• Record entries in log sheets, log book and/or computer.
• Perform lab duties using defined testing procedures and performs lab tests required to determine process performance and by the Water Treatment Plant Discharge Permit.
• May be required to assist Maintenance Staff with corrective maintenance of equipment.
• Assist in operation of pilot plant equipment as directed upon proper training.
• Collect date from Pilot Plant Operation & Submit data as instructed
• Review Process SOPs
• Review P&ID sheets for accuracy
• Participate in routine custodial duties as needed for building and grounds maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, qualifications and experience:
• Minimum of 1 year college level coursework or technical training in Water Treatment biology/environmental science or chemistry
• Understanding of Water Treatment concepts, processes & laboratory procedures
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Ability to work independently and be self-directed required
• Ability to follow both oral and written instructions required
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing required
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the general public required

HSEC Accountabilities:

• Report all incidents; including but not limited to injuries, near miss, community interactions and impacts, environmental impacts, spills, unsafe work practices, etc.
