Network Administrator Intern - May 2022

The Network Administrator Intern helps administer the operations of the local area network. This role helps monitor daily activity and data traffic along the network to ensure proper operation and assists with network upgrades and maintenance projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Exhibit the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors.
2. Help administer and oversee day-to-day operation of local area network (LAN); work closely with the network engineer and system administrators.
3. Help diagnose and resolve hardware and software problems; analyze possible network modifications to improve performance and features; research new solutions and/or technologies that will allow for network improvement/enhancement.
4. Help perform phone administration and installation, including moves, adds and changes; provide backup responsibilities to Nortel phone system and NortelPBX administration.
5. Help monitor network performance, maintain system logs and schedule network maintenance when required. Research business processes and how network and server resources can increase operating efficiency.
6. Assist service personnel with installation of networking hardware and peripheral components.
7. Document and record network configurations and network user requirements.

Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma required.
- Current student pursing a degree in Information Systems/Computer Science.
- Previous internship is a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge in the area(s) of networking, IP protocols, Cisco IOSm PC systems and telephone/PBX; knowledge of products and technologies that will benefit local network; understanding of network diagrams, fundamentals and protocols.
- Ability to perform necessary operations on network systems to ensure network reliability, including installing cable ends efficiently and accurately, terminating network/telephone cables, tone generators, upgrading network components, PC/Sun Station.
- Ability to maintain server reliability as measured by total of all servers uptime.
- Ability to perform assembly and installation of servers to mount in racks.
- Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers.
- Ability to provide excellent internal customer service; ability to respond within a 30-minute timeframe when on-call.
- Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships, which encourage openness with customers and peers; ability to develop interpersonal relationships with co-workers, staff, clients and the community to meet or exceed expectations.
- Demonstration of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstration of attention to detail and a high sense of accuracy; ability to create accurate, professional and error-free documents; ability to type and enter data accurately.
- Demonstration of strong organizational skills; ability to work effectively under extreme stress; ability to coordinate multiple projects/time/resources simultaneously.

Work Location
ONSITE: A team member’s day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
