Housing: SSAB will provide to you, for the duration of your assignment, a fully furnished apartment located in Saraland, Alabama. All rent and utilities, including electric, gas, water, and cable will be paid directly by SSAB.

Environmental Co-Op

CO-OP PROGRAM STRUCTURE - SSAB'S Co-Op Program is on a 3-semester rotating schedule. The Co-Op would work for SSAB in Fall 2022, Summer 2023, and Spring 2024 and attend classes in between.

POSITION PURPOSE – The Environmental Co-op will work with an innovative team of environmental professionals to enhance SSAB’s Environmental Management System (ISO Certified) and provide critical support for a wide variety of state and federal compliance programs while gaining valuable industry experience.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·   Participate in site inspections to determine compliance with environmental regulations.

·  Assist in sampling activity in support of permit requirements.

·   Assist with recycling and environmental sustainability services projects.

·  Assist with data collection and data entry for state and federal compliance reporting.

·  Participate in the facility audit program: environmental compliance and ISO 14001 certification audits.

·  Participate in the steel making process to learn how SSAB’s EMS is utilized and integrated into daily tasks.

·   Participate in document retention in accordance with related regulations and statues.
  
EDUCATIONAL/TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
 
·  At least two (2) years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Bio-Systems Engineering or related field.

·  This position requires a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

·   Good communication, interpersonal, written, analytical and organization skills.

·   Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint is a plus.
 
KEY EXPECTED RESULTS:

·  Co-op will have the opportunity to collaborate with the team through research, development, project management and implementation.

·  Co-op will gain a broader understanding of waste management (hazardous and non-hazardous) and prevention, various regulatory permits such as Title V and NPDES.

·  Co-op will have exposure to an ISO 1400 Management System and understand the various clauses that make up an EMS.

·  Co-op will gain an understanding of Life-cycle analysis (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

·  Position is full time, non-exempt, and is eligible for overtime

·  Position works (8) hours a day, Monday-Friday (days only)
