Personal Lines Underwriting Internship (May 2022 - May 2023)

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze Auto or Home new business applications, changes, reinstatements, and cancelations using underwriting guidelines and state insurance codes to authorize, reject, rescind, modify, or nonrenew.
  • Promote Partners in Excellence and a positive relationship with the agency field. Communicate with the agency field and other departments concerning underwriting related questions/issues and resolve problem cases. Assist the agency field in responding to questions about proposed coverages and rates.
  • Ensure profitable risk selection and pricing by properly classifying exposures, verifying characteristics are identified and applied, and making changes when warranted.
  • Review and analyze targeted reports and take appropriate underwriting action to ensure proper classification and rating.
  • Utilize sound judgment, logic, and data/metrics to authorize exceptions to underwriting rules when necessary.
 
Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business, Economics or a related field 
  • Must be able to work full-time hours from late May to early August 2022
  • The internship will be extended part-time through May of 2023, must be able to work 15-20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. 
  • Graduation date of May 2023 or beyond
  • Strong customer service, negotiation, and conflict management skills
  • Ability to be productive, with high degree of accuracy/attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, and proactive
  • Exercises analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Responds well under pressure
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity
