Intern, On-Demand - Marketplace Podcasts

Position Information:
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Location: One of Marketplace’s offices in LA, NY, DC or remote (anywhere within the U.S.A.)
  • Start Date: January 10, 2022 – May 27, 2022
  • Compensation: $15.00/hour
 
Intern, On Demand – Marketplace Podcasts:
As the On-Demand Intern for Marketplace Podcasts, you will work on several shows, including the award-winning podcast The Uncertain Hour and Make Me Smart. You will work on small teams with strong mentors, and will gain experience in all aspect of podcast creation. You will help The Uncertain Hour and other Marketplace podcasts grow audiences.
Specifically, you will:
  • research and pitch stories
  • find sources and conduct pre-interviews
  • book guests
  • file public records requests
  • log tape
  • edit interviews and pull selects in Audition and Pro Tools
  • participate in group edits and feedback sessions
  • perform other duties as assigned
 
Key Learning Goals:
Our On Demand teams are small and collaborative. You will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills -- from technical skills, like recording and editing audio, to soft skills like communication, critical thinking, and teamwork.
Goals for the intern:
  • Improve technical skills (editing audio, recording audio, transcription programs, etc.)
  • Improve soft skills (communication, critical thinking, leadership)
  • Learn narrative storytelling by participating in group edits
 
Responsibilities:
  • Research and pitch stories
  • Find sources, conduct pre-interviews and book guests
  • Log tape and pull selects
  • Participate in group edits and feedback sessions

  • Participate in robust on-boarding experience

Required Qualifications:
  • Enrolled Senior in an undergraduate or Master’s program OR have earned a degree within the last 12 months
  • Some familiarity editing audio (we will train)
  • Familiarity with journalism ethics
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in journalism
  • Research skills
